The works involve the provision of a remodelled public toilet facility in Christchurch Town Centre. The existing location and building will be used to a greater extent with a new layout and facility provided internally whilst retaining the buildings current character.

To accomplish this, the existing roof is to be retained whilst the front wall is removed and reconstructed as a series of brick piers and arches. Internally the existing ceiling is to be retained whilst new lightweight block walls are constructed to provide individual toilet cubicles. The existing garage / store located alongside the building will be utilised to provide accessible toilet facilities.

The finishes are largely traditional with ceramic sanitaryware with automatic hand wash, drying facilities. The hand wash and drying unit are to be of stainless steel or resin bonded self-contained automatic or semi-automatic in operation.

Walls and floors are also ceramic with a vandal resistant ceiling incorporating LED panel lighting. The remodelled existing front wall to the building is to provide a dry circulation area and is to be finished with self-coloured render offsetting the brick façade.

The energy efficient lighting will be activated by individual cubicle door operation, incorporating an electronic lock mechanism that indicates occupied and unoccupied this may also be linked to an auto flush mechanism.

The building opens onto a busy service road that is block paved. This service road provides access to the neighbouring shops for deliveries and for taxis awaiting call from the main taxi rank. The area is also a fire escape from three neighbouring high street shops and must be kept clear at all times.

Christchurch Borough Council operates a partnership with East Dorset District Council and this project will be managed by the partnership however, the contract will be with Christchurch Borough Council.
