Provision of a Youth Activity Park

The Council is looking to provide a Youth Activity Park (YAP) in Barnsley Town Centre.

The park seeks to compliment the Onside Youth Zone, the construction of which is due to commence shortly.

In this pre-market engagement exercise we would like to obtain feedback from potential suppliers with experience delivering activity parks / public realm work to assess the subsequent procurement route and to obtain any lessons learned from experience - thus promoting overall success.

For the avoidance of doubt - this is a pre-market engagement exercise in order to gather information from potential suppliers. This stage is not a tendering exercise.

The YAP is located at the Eastern Gateway development site, opposite the Barnsley Train Station on Schwabisch Gmund Way in the town centre.

However, the design is subject to ongoing wider stakeholder consultation / collaboration and the project is at RIBA Stage 2.

Currently, the space planning involves a diversified offer that includes a skate park, pump track, activity play area, parkour area, active recreation routes and potentially a small toilet facility / equipment hire unit.

The purpose of the Activity Park will be to provide a safe space for young people in Barnsley. The Activity Park will provide space to undertake a multitude of activities and allow young people of all age groups a space away from the town centre to socialise.

Full planning permission has been granted for the Youth Zone which is located on the adjacent to the Activity Park with works due to commence shortly. This could mean that two contractors will be working on site at the same time.

The primary goal of this project is to optimise the surrounding space to the Youth Zone and create an Activity Park catering for a variety of age groups and type of activity.
