description
National Marine Facilities Sea Systems (NMFSS) is part of the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) and was established in September 2005. It draws together a wide range of services and capabilities to support marine scientific research in an impartial and transparent way across the whole UK marine science community. The NMFSS mission is to develop, coordinate and provide capabilities, platforms and expertise to meet the needs of UK marine science. The Sensors and Moorings Group are responsible for a large range of instruments that are deployed in profiling, shallow towed or moored applications.
Sensors and Moorings Group will be supporting the Marine Facilities Programme (MFP) funded by NERC by providing moorings to the UK strategic science program.
In order to fulfil its commitments to the MFP, NMFSS needs to purchase a SeaSoar Hydraulic Unit. SeaSoar is a highly versatile towed undulating vehicle used to deploy a wide range of oceanographic monitoring equipment. Developed by Chelsea Technologies Group (CTG) from an original design by the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton, UK it has a proven record of reliability over many thousands of miles of operation. The IPR for the new design of Hydraulic unit is wholly owned by CTG.
