description
India plans to scale up its energy supply quickly to support its growth and development goals. At the same time, the Indian government has committed to accelerate its energy transition, setting targets such as 500 GW of non-fossil fuel energy and a 45% reduction in emissions intensity by 2030, energy independence by 2047 and net zero by 2070. India's power sector is undergoing a transformative shift driven by the country's commitments to decarbonization, energy security, and grid modernization.
This UK PACT-funded initiative seeks expert technical support to accelerate the deployment of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across five Indian states-Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra. The project aims to enhance grid flexibility, reliability, and renewable energy integration through tailored assessments and capacity building with state-level electricity distribution companies (DISCOMs).
The supplier will work closely with DISCOMs to:
- Conduct techno-commercial feasibility studies for BESS
- Identify optimal sites and technologies
- Develop financial models and implementation strategies
- Support institutional capacity building and knowledge transfer
