Property Consultants to undertake a review of Sandwell's Surplus Property Assets

SMBC has a significant list of "surplus" land & property assets and it wishes to appoint an experienced firm of property consultants and agents with a strong presence in the West Midlands property market to advise on which of them have value, likely demand levels, and a marketing & disposals strategy.

The Council has recently adopted a new Corporate Asset Management Strategy. This sets out a plan for the more effective use of its operational and commercial property assets. There is a particular need to reduce costs and also to enhance income streams. As part of this it needs to look carefully at its surplus assets with a view to identifying the best way to extract value from them.

The Council has identified a number surplus property assets as part its land register, some of which were declared surplus many years ago. In addition there are other assets which, whilst not yet declared surplus, are no longer required for operational purposes.

The list currently comprises 140 assets and will be made available to the appointed consultant.
