Provision of Breastfeeding Peer Support

On 1st April 2013 the responsibility for public health services within the County of Dorset transferred from the NHS to the local authorities of Dorset County Council, Bournemouth Borough Council and the Borough of Poole. All three localities work together as Public Health Dorset with Dorset County Council being the host authority. The transfer of public health from the NHS presents an opportunity for Public Health Dorset to transform public health services across the three local authority areas. Dorset County Council, on behalf of Public Health Dorset, is seeking tenders for the provision of a breastfeeding peer support service that will: Recruit, train and supervise breastfeeding peer supporters to help mothers continue to breastfeed to at least 6-8 weeks Provide targeted and tailored breastfeeding peer support for mothers living in communities with the lowest rates of breastfeeding Universally offer training and supervision to Children's Centre volunteers to facilitate breastfeeding peer support group programmes in these delivery settings. Help mothers to become more aware of the range of breastfeeding services available to support them. Contract Period and Value: The contract to commence 1st April 2016 for a period of two years with an annual value of £ 80,000 (total contract value £160,000)
