description

HMRC is leading a cross-government 12 month pilot to re-use unwanted government assets, for example stationery, office supplies, furniture etc. The pilot will use a fully electronic, e-Bay-style system, allowing the assets to be offered, free of charge, by and to the departments taking part. We currently have interest from 14 departments and agencies (large and small) wanting to be involved.

The system must have the ability to generate comprehensive evaluation data, including cost and supply chain emission savings. It will also need to provide a facility for items not claimed to be offered to the chosen charities of the department owning the assets.

The study forms part of Defra’s cross-government waste strategy, and feeds into the ‘Greening Government’ commitments and the Olympic Legacy.
