1235 Supply and Commissioning of Subsonic Wind Tunnel Solution at De Montfort University

This is a provision to purchase a Subsonic Wind Tunnel solution for our Aeronautical Engineering course to support Teaching and Research activities. & to cater for our current and future needs especially for the new Aeronautical Engineering course due to start in 2019/2020.

Minimum requirements:

• a.A Subsonic Wind Tunnel needs to operate in an area of 9.5m X 10m
• b.The tunnel must be open-circuit suction wind tunnel and designed to suit safe operation in educational environment
• c.The proposed tunnel must be capable of conducting various aerodynamics experiments
• d.Minimum Working section: 300 mm x 300 mm, and 600 mm long
• e.Variable and controlled Air velocity ranging from 0 to 35 m.s-1
• f.Maximum Noise levels at full speed ideally to be in the range of: 80 dB(A) at operators ear level
• g.Operating electrical supply (three phase) to be: 380 VAC to 440 VAC 50 Hz/60 Hz (16 A)
• h.The construction materials used must comply with the latest European Union/UK safety directives
• i.For ease and safety of use the Wind tunnel controls should be mounted on a separate, free-standing instrument frame
• j.The full wind tunnel assembly must be mobile. Ideally on braked wheels
• k.The wind tunnel must be capable of demonstrating experiments such as a lift and drag balance with a set of three-dimensional models for experiments in aerodynamic drag along with other requirements set out in the tender document suite.
