description

This project is a feasibility study looking into additional risk mitigation options to reduce environmental exposure of pesticides in surface water via drainflow and to groundwater. The project involves exploring additional options for risk mitigation, for example, but not limited to, the introduction of restrictions on drained land, land vulnerable to groundwater leaching, individual soil type restrictions (for example based on textural class, pH, clay or organic carbon content), regional or catchment scale restrictions, or any other practical options to reduce pesticides reaching surface and groundwater. Fundamentally this could allow more safe products to remain on the UK market, potentially helping to address key issues such as availability and resistance. Note that consideration of options to mitigate surface water exposure via spray drift are outside the remit of this study.
