The aim of the London Borough of Newham Enrichment Programme is to provide free at the point of access theatre tickets for pupils in Newham's Secondary Schools, with the aim of capitalising on the inspiration that visiting the theatre can give to young people, with benefits including:
- oIntroduction to the magic of the theatre and the potential for developing learning (eg literacy, literature, curiosity, creativity, issue-based learning, citizenship, etc).
- oSpecific learning opportunities in the skills of theatre-going (eg understanding dramatic convention, learning specialist vocabulary, being able to sustain attention and concentration throughout a performance without distraction, etc.).
- oSupport at school to take part in activities that can offer lifelong participation and raising confidence, in terms of the process of attending the theatre, linked conventions and expectations, etc.
- oInspiration to take up further opportunities in terms of performing arts, stage craft or wider creative industries.
- oEnhance Newham children's cultural capital by their visit to a high quality theatre production
The Authority is seeking to appoint a Provider to deliver high quality theatre experiences to pupils in year group 7 attending Newham secondary schools.
Subject to COVID regulations in place, Enrichment theatre visits will take place between October 2021- 31 March 2022. All theatre visits to be completed by 31 March 2022.
The Authority is inviting tenderers to bid to deliver a theatre production package suitable for secondary pupils in year group 7.
Funding is available for the first year October 2021- March 2022, and any additional funding to deliver an extended service will be confirmed towards the expiry of the initial contract. The maximum amount of funding available is £62,000 based on and bids should not exceed this amount. When calculating individual ticket prices, tenderers should take account of all package costs including, but not limited to, overheads, CPDs, resource provision to teachers, tickets for staff accompanying pupils. The provider must be able to accommodate visits from 4900 pupils and the relevant number of accompanying staff/ volunteers.
As part of the programme, the provider shall provide free theatre tickets to a full year cohort of pupils attending Newham Schools. The Authority shall pay the provider directly for the number of tickets 'sold' at the rate per ticket, set out in the provider's bid. The provider shall ensure they are able to accommodate a theatre visit from up to 4900 pupils with the appropriate ratio of accompanying school staff (490 staff in total over the period).
