description

NYCC seeking a contractor for the Peasholm Glen Bridge strengthening and concrete repairs. This is to be tendered through YorCivils Framework Contract, Lot 3.

Additional information: The Council require a suitable Contractor to carry out works to Peasholm Glen Bridge.

The Works Briefly comprises:-

  • Vegetation clearance around the bridge abutments and the proposed site cabin locations.
  • Design and Erect scaffolding system for safe access to all the work areas underneath the bridge deck, as well as pilasters on both abutment sides.
  • Carry out hammer tapping and sound tests to underside of the bridge deck to remove any delaminated concrete.
  • Remove the delaminated concrete around the corroded rebar areas using non-destructive methods such as Saw or Disc cutting or similarly approved until the non-corroded steel length reached to hand place or spray the new concrete repair mortar or micro concrete in to voids.
  • Break the concrete up to 50 to 70mm to place the repairing mortar.
  • Clean and prepare all the exposed rebar's to take a primer coating to protect any further corrosion, replace the badly corroded rebars with similar diameter of reinforcement with a minimum lap length of 40Xbar diameter.
  • Fill all concrete breaks out and repair areas with FOSROC or Sika type of repairing mortar by hand placing or spraying.
  • Apply a final anti-carbonation coating on to the exposed bridge sofit and rib areas [Not for the bays with the FRP material] to protect the concrete surfaces for future carbonation induced corrosion or chloride induced delamination.
  • Design and Apply FRP (Fibre reinforced Polymers) bridge strengthening material to the existing bridge deck as shown in Drawing Number NYCC/982/004 to achieve a minimum resisting Bending Moment of 50kN.m (Existing) to 98.54kN.m (Proposed).
  • Repointing of dislocated stone copings on both sides of the bridge parapets.

The proposed form of contract is NEC3 Option A. It is anticipated that the Tender documents will be released within the next few weeks with a return date of mid-Nov 2015. It is envisaged the works will commence towards the beginning of February 2016 with an estimated Programme duration of 16 weeks.
