description

Through-barrier materials identification device

The Home Office Centre of Applied Science and Technology (CAST) are conducting Early Engagement through this notice as a request for information to ascertain if there are any suppliers who can offer:

  • A device which can chemically identify organic materials through an opaque barrier
  • The device should provide a visual result in less than 3 minutes
  • The device may be either portable - in which case it should weigh less than 10 kg - or it may be stationary – in which case it should have a conveyor or other system for automatic loading of objects.

The Home Office may decide to exercise a right to evaluate the capability of any systems which meet the above requirements.

The Home Office will consider requests to meet reasonable costs to enable a supplier to deliver the system for evaluation.

The Home Office may require suppliers to sign a two-way non-disclosure agreement to allow the sharing of commercially sensitive information.

Closing Date 26th November 2015.
