description
Tough Cookie has a pre-existing relationship with the Faculty of Social Science following the delivery of bespoke mental health resilience training offered to the School of Geography across six sessions between October and December 2021. Funded by a Cascade Grant, this training was open to both students and staff and was followed by a qualitative and quantitative review of its successes and limitations. This review has been used to further hone the training to the needs of UoN students and staff.
Tough Cookie are a unique provider of mental health resilience training, being one of the only companies to work across business, charity, and education sectors. Given the specific requirements of not only the faculty, but also each of the schools within it, Tough Cookie's ability to tailor delivery to specific needs and timetables makes them perfect for the project. Tough Cookie have designed the scheme to fit with not only the faculty's requirements but also the specific rhythm of our teaching and learning semesters.
Also, given the series of important lessons learned from the pilot scheme there is a crucial element of continuity with getting Tough Cookie to continue with their work at UoN - as well as using the same trainer. This enables an iterative and reflexive element to the scheme to ensure its success. While small (n=12), the pilot was highly effective with very positive feedback. Working with Tough Cookie enables us to scale the project while maintaining local, school/department level buy in and specificity. Given all this it is fundamental that Tough Cookie are part of the project, as no other supplier would be able to deliver to our specific needs.
