description

The Walton Centre is unique - we are the only specialist hospital trust in the UK dedicated to providing comprehensive neurology, neurosurgery, spinal and pain management services. Our specialist staff offer a world-class service in diagnosing and treating injuries and illnesses affecting the brain, spine and peripheral nerves and muscles, and in supporting patients suffering from a wide range of long-term neurological conditions. We treat more than 100,000 patients a year.

Our neurosurgery department is one of the busiest in the UK, performing around 3,000 elective surgical cases, 2,000 emergency surgical cases, and 400 day case procedures a year. The Trust's neurology department operates a network of almost 50 satellite clinics at hospital and GP practice sites around the region, which brings our services closer to the 3.5 million people in our catchment area. In addition we are the region's specialist centre for spinal services, and house the most comprehensive neuroradiology service in the country, including four MRI scanners and a highly advanced CT scanner. The Trust also runs the rehabilitation network for Cheshire and Merseyside, and has a dedicated neuroscience research centre, conducting vital research and clinical trials.

In September 2015, we were announced as a NHS Vanguard which gives us national support to develop our neurology and spinal services further. The Walton Centre has also achieved Investors in People Gold accreditation, recognising our commitment to our workforce of over 1,500 staff. The Walton Centre Charity funds a variety of projects at the hospital which help improve patient care and services.
