description

The Urban Sciences Building (USB) is a £58 million flagship development on Science Central. The building will be the new home for the School of Computing Science and several interdisciplinary teams, who will relocate for the building’s opening in September 2017. Over 1500 staff members and students will be based in the 12,500 sqm building. In addition to supporting teaching and research in current areas, the building has been designed as a unique environment to encourage researchers, professional practitioners and building occupants to forge new collaborative research relationships. In addition to the facilities within the USB, the building itself is designed as a ‘living laboratory’.

As part of the USB facilities, the School of Computing Science will have an advanced, 312 seat teaching, group study and computer lab space with cutting edge display, presentation and group work facilities.

The design of this space is intended to allow the furniture configuration to be altered to the needs of the activity taking place; as a traditional computer lab with high performance desktop computers, hardware devices, electronic kits and programming tools, or as flat mini-conference style desking for small group work and study.

The desk furniture therefore needs to reflect the multiple requirements of the space and be flexible enough to allow reconfiguration without the involvement of specialist or support staff; the main aspect of this is to allow the storage of displays, mice and keyboards when the desks are in their group study, or flat working space configuration.

The scope of this contract is for the supply, delivery, installation and commissioning of teaching desks as detailed in Section 3 Technical Specification at the University, together with a 60 months maintenance and service option following a minimum of 12 months standard warranty.
