- Introduction
Purpose of the Specification
This specification sets out the requirements for the delivery and operation of an on-site Alternative Provision (AP) at The East Manchester Academy, to be managed by an external provider. The aim is to support pupils at risk of exclusion or those who require a more tailored educational environment to re-engage with learning and improve outcomes.
Background
The East Manchester Academy (TEMA) is a mainstream secondary school with approximately 1050 pupils, located in Beswick, Manchester. We are committed to inclusion and early intervention to support all learners. The school has identified a need for a dedicated on-site AP to cater for up to 20 pupils who struggle to access mainstream education.
- Scope of Requirements
Service Description
We require an experienced, suitably qualified provider to design, deliver, and manage an on-site alternative provision. This will involve:
Providing structured education, pastoral care, and behaviour support for up to 20 pupils aged 11-16.
Operating during standard school hours and term times.
Collaborating with school staff and external agencies as appropriate.
Core Requirements
The provider must:
Deliver a curriculum aligned with the national curriculum (including English, Maths, and PSHE). This will be delivered by existing TEMA staff as part of their normal timetable.
Support behaviour improvement, attendance, and pupil well-being.
Provide staff trained in trauma-informed approaches and behaviour management.
Offer tailored interventions and reintegration support where appropriate.
Maintain safeguarding, health & safety, and data protection in line with school policies.
Facilities
The provision will be located in the existing footprint of the school, provisionally using the SIBCAS units that currently house RESET. The provider is expected to fully/staff and furnish the space/provide learning resources and equipment.
