description
London Borough of Ealing wishes to carry out market engagement in April/May 2024 with providers who are interested in tendering for a contract for the provision of a community-based Specialist Stop Smoking Service that improves access and outcomes, particularly targeting those most at-risk groups and contributes towards reducing health inequalities.
This pre-tender market engagement seeks information in preparation for the potential procurement for the delivery of a Stop Smoking Service in Ealing. It is the intention of the Council to award the new contract for two (2) years with one possibility of a two (2) year extension, with the total contract value of approximately £1,972,000 (if all extensions used) starting from April 2025. It is planned to publish the tender during July/August 2024, with an intention to award by the end of 2024.
Smoking is the leading cause of health inequalities, accounting for half the difference of life expectancy between the richest and poorest in society. Nationally, smoking prevalence among adults continues to fall. Smoking prevalence in Ealing is currently 15.9% (36,000 smokers) which is higher than the averages across England (12.7%) and London (11.7%) Smoking prevalence in Ealing has seen a significant jump from 10.3% in 2021. There are also differences in smoking prevalence by socio-demographic groups, with rates being higher in routine & manual workers (27.4%) and adults with serious mental health illness (34.6%). Locally, we have also identified more at-risk priority groups including pregnant smokers, smokers with long-term conditions and smokers living with children.
