Merz Court

The proposed project is to reinforce and extend the existing district network to supply the existing heat network as well as the Stephenson Building and the existing Cassie Building.

The reinforcement works within Merz Court shall include the replacement of existing natural gas boilers that have reached the end of their economic life expectancy and the introduction of a renewable energy 1MVA CHP unit to act as the lead heat source whilst also generating green electricity which shall be fed into the University's existing HV network. The necessary HV switchgear upgrades to accommodate the revised infrastructure are planned for installation by December 2021 and therefore design of the overall replacement network should be complete by July 2021.
