description
Norfolk Museums Service, as part of Norfolk County Council, wishes to enter into a contract to fit out the main exhibition areas for the Norwich Castle: Gateway to Medieval England project. The chosen contractor will provide services in accordance with the Specification of Requirements, Appendix 2.
Norwich Castle: Gateway to Medieval England is a four-year project to re-present Norwich Castle Keep, a 900 year-old-landmark on the city skyline.
The Normans built the Keep as a palace fit for a conquering king. Now, thanks to major support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, visitors will be able to experience the Keep as it was in its royal heyday.
This exciting project will re-create the palace of Norman Kings, one of Medieval Europe's most important buildings. For the first time in 900 years everyone will be able to explore all 5 levels of the Keep - from basement to battlements.
The British Museum's first Medieval gallery outside London will bring treasures of international importance to Norwich, further enabling Norwich Castle to take its rightful place as one of the UK's premier heritage attractions.
Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery is part of Norfolk Museums Service (NMS), a multi-award winning service comprising ten museums and a study centre. NMS is now regarded as one of the leaders in the museum sector and is a National Portfolio Organisation for Arts Council England. Norfolk Museums Service is a partnership between Norfolk County Council and Norfolk's district councils, funded through council tax, earned income and grants: www.museums.norfolk.gov.uk The project will transform the quality and depth of the visitor experience, through enhanced interpretation, immersive displays and innovative learning and engagement programmes for new and existing audiences.
Additional information: Norfolk Museums Service (NMS) wishes to enter into a contract for the provision of main exhibition fit out for the 'Norwich Castle: Gateway to Medieval England' redevelopment project at Norwich Castle Museum and Art Gallery, Castle Hill, Norwich, NR1 3JU.
The work of this contract will recreate the palace of the Norman Kings and install a British Museum Partnership Gallery of the medieval period and other interventions to enable visitors to explore the archaeology and history of this 900-year-old landmark.
It will include all main exhibition contractor duties, exhibit displays, AV hardware, theatrical lighting, graphic media, physical interactives and associated shop-fit works, including local power.
