description

Gaitsgill Village Retaining Wall supports the U1142 highway that runs alongside Pen Beck, Gaitsgill. The retaining wall on the Western side of Pen Beck supports the public highway and the wall and riverbanks on the Eastern side of the beck are privately owned. The highway is the only access route to several properties and farms; there is no alternative route for vehicles. The retaining wall suffered flood damage earlier this year resulting in a significant loss of masonry in the area surrounding a private footbridge opposite the property known as 'Royal Oak House'. Another sizeable flood event could pose a significant risk to the highway therefore works are required before we reach the height of the winter period.
