description
Evaluate feasibility of developing operational marine indicators and metrics into official statistic by selecting and evaluating a set of indicators against the UK Code of Practice for Statistics. Summarise findings and provide recommendations on next steps regarding use of official or national statistics to support coherent reporting for marine and fisheries information across the Defra group, particularly for the reporting of the 25 Year Environment Plan.
The project will provide information to support proportionate and integrated reporting by the Defra marine and fisheries system that is fit for purpose, meets user and public needs and ensures continued confidence in reporting products once the UK leaves the EU.
- Project Background
Once outside of the EU, the UK will continue to have both national and international reporting obligations. These reports are made to evaluate the progress of implementation of UK environmental policies and to meet obligations under international treaties and conventions. The Defra marine and fisheries system must seek to ensure that users continue to have confidence in the information (e.g. statistics, metrics, indicators and data) being reported on for the marine environment.
The Defra marine and fisheries system needs to review therefore if additional reporting requirements are required to support coherency in information being published by the Defra family, regarding the marine environment and to enhance public confidence in reporting against the UK's environmental standards.
