description

Project Overview and Aims

The aim of this project is to carry out a scoping study to investigate the environmental and financial issues associated with co located, Net Zero contributing businesses such as Solar Photovoltaic (PV) panels on open and closed landfill sites.

In 2027, the renewables obligation certificates (ROC) scheme - which has successfully supported landfill gas generated electricity - will end. This project will explore business ideas which could be co-located on landfill

sites and potentially provide alternative sources of revenue generation. Many of these opportunities will exploit the underutilised electricity export facilities already in place on landfill sites, but some will be freestanding of that infrastructure e.g. microgeneration for crypto mining.
