PROJECT OVERVIEW
Improved detection and diagnosis of hypertension is a priority for the Camden CCG and it has invested in several programmes to support its member GP practices and patients to achieve this aim.
In order to diagnose hypertension, NICE (National Institute of Health and Care Excellence) recommends, ‘1.2.3 If the clinic blood pressure is 140/90 mmHg or higher, offer ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) to confirm the diagnosis of hypertension.’ available to view online here.
There are 35 GP practices in Camden, each varying in the relative patient list size and demographics. The list sizes range from below 5000 to over 20,000 registered patients. These practices have already been equipped with home and ABPM devices.
With support from the CCG, the practices are committing to an increase in the proactive detection and screening of patients for hypertension. In order to meet the potential increased demand, there is a need for providing additional ABPMs to the practices.
SPECIFICATION OF DEVICES
The proposed ABPMs will need to full-fill the minimum criteria below:
| 1. | Clinically-validated ambulatory blood pressure measurement device |
| 2. | Recommended for clinical, home (including 7-day self-monitoring) and 24 hour blood pressure monitoring |
| 3. | Minimum 4 year warranty with replacement if the device fails prior to warranty expiration |
| 4. | Light weight, compact and user friendly |
| 5. | Transmit BP measurement data to any computer using USB connectivity. |
- Detection of Atrial Fibrillation is highly desirable
- Flexible cuff sizes for comfort on different sized arms
NUMBER REQUIRED
In total 13 number of ABPMs are needed.
The total budget amount will be made available to the supplier on signing this contract. Procurement of additional devices may be phased over an extended period of time (detailed below).
SERVICE OFFERED WITH DEVICES
- Different quantities of the ABPMs will need to be transported to 13 different locations, all within the borough of Camden. The coordination of the delivery will be the responsibility of the supplier. The number of devices to be provided to each GP practice and the address of the GP practice (including details of the Practice Manager) will be provided by the CCG.
- Initially 13 ABPMs will need to be delivered to a select number of GP practices (by mid-September 2016). The details of these practices will be made available to the successful supplier.
- Phased Supply: After September 2016, additional ABPMs may be needed over time to meet demand in the remaining 22 GP practices. The supplier is requested to provide the turn over time from when the request for additional ABPMs is made and the delivery is executed, and any other restrictions (such as minimum number to be ordered) with this phased approach. Payment for additional ABPMs will be made available as required and is not included within this budget.
