Under the Dentists Act 1984, we are required to provide a statutory examination for overseas dentists who wish to practise in the UK. In this context, overseas dentists are all non-EEA dentists, who do not hold a first qualification in dentistry from the UK. The Act also provides that the examination is to be held by a dental authority, or a group of dental authorities, under arrangements made by the Council.

In this context, overseas dentists are all non-EEA dentists, who do not hold a first qualification in dentistry from the UK. The Act also provides that the examination is to be held by a dental authority, or a group of dental authorities, under arrangements made by the Council. We are looking to appoint a Contractor/(s) to deliver the statutory examination for overseas dentists as part of the contract be required to :

  • Deliver examination for c 400 candidates annually. Presently based on 2 diet per years.

-Provide facilities in the UK to hold the examination

-Provide exam material, equipment and personnel

Other additional information: The current expenditure for the service is circa £1,000,000 over 5 years. In the event that the UK leave the EU, EU dentists may become subject to the statutory examinations. If we leave with a deal, then we expect a transitional period which may mean EU dentists are not subject to the statutory examinations for c. 2 years after the UK exits the EU. If the UK leaves the EU without a deal, then EU dentists may automatically be required to take the examination.
