description

Great Georges Road is a largely residential road linking the A565 to a route through to the promenade with a handful of commercial businesses located along the length. Waterloo Town Hall is also located on Great Georges Road and is a frequent venue for weddings. The Council will expect the Contractor to take into consideration any weddings whilst works are in the immediate vicinity of the Town Hall.

At the junction of Great Georges Road and A565 (Crosby Road North) locally referred to as the "five lamps" is the war memorial, with remembrance services held at the junction each year.

The junction itself is adjacent to Waterloo Railway Bridge with the main A565 spanning the bridge. The A565 Crosby Road North / South is the main A road route between Crosby and Liverpool and is heavily trafficked.

The scheme will be focused on footway, carriageway and bridge waterproofing works and will comprise of three elements

Provision of a segregated cycle lane along the length of Great Georges Road. These works will include the realignment of the Walmer Road junction.
Waterproofing of the Waterloo Railway Bridge. This will require the temporary removal of the war memorial to facilitate these works.
Amendments to the alignment of the existing bus shelter on the A565 opposite the Shell garage, just to the south of South Road.

The site extents are largely within two local Conservation Areas. The west end of Great Georges Road around the Royal Hotel is within the Waterloo Conservation Area, whilst west from Price Street along Great Georges Road, including the "five lamps" junction is within the Christ Church Conservation Area.
