description

In accordance with the Trust’s strategic objectives the East of England Ambulance Service continues to train significant numbers of student ambulance paramedics, as well as supporting existing staff in pre-professional grades to progress to registration as paramedics. The success of staff on these pathways supports key Trust priorities in seeking to increase our capacity to deliver high quality patient care. We are also working in partnership with HEIs to deliver placements for BSc student paramedics across East of England.

The East of England Ambulance Service strives to deliver a supportive environment in which staff can develop through educational programmes and work-based practice. The Trust is looking to enhance is mentorship capacity to be able to offer a high level of support for staff in training towards registration as paramedics.

The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST) would like to run a Higher Education Level 5 non-credit/ Level 5/6 15/20 credit Mentorship (Paramedic Educator) programme for between 140 and 200 Paramedics during the financial year of 2016/17. A further 200 may be trained on the programme in the following two financial years (2017-18 & 2018/19) on a call off basis. Three Pathways are proposed, with two being credit bearing/non-credit bearing with two contact days. The third pathway would be delivered online only. Each pathway should be a 12 week learning course. It is important for the Trust that a high level of flexibility and support is built into the programme offered by the provider. This flexibility will be discussed and agreed with the successful provider. Each cohort will be for 20 staff. Delivery should start as soon as possible from September 2016 and complete by the end of April 2017.

The provider should serve each of EEAST’s Localities (Bed & Herts; Essex; Norfolk, Suffolk & Cambs). EEAST is open to the potential of HEIs working together to deliver the programme across the Localities.
