description

Northumbria is seeking a supplier to provide all fibre cabling work for the next 5 years. The scope of this tender covers an example project (see below) which will be used to evaluate the approach and cost of suppliers in the market.

We expect to replace all our old OM1 fibres within all our buildings to either OM3 or OM4 standard, dependant on distances. We also expect to run in new 48 core single mode fibres between all our buildings on the City and Coach Lane campuses. In addition to the above planned works, we expect there to be additional opportunity to run fibre cabling for projects and repairs.

The successful supplier will be offered a 5-year preferred supplier agreement, which means that all work in these 5 years will be offered to this supplier.

Suppliers are asked to provide a proposal and cost for the following project across a number of key areas of our Newcastle City Campus.

•Supply, install, terminate and test 1x No. 48 core OS2 fibre optic cable from Ellison Building CBlock Comms Room to the Sutherland Basement Comms Room. Approximate length 1000 metres.

Supply, install, terminate and test 2 No. 48 core OS2 fibre optic patch panels.

Fusion splice each core with OS2 pigtails and present onto the patch panel with LC type connectors.

•Supply, install, terminate and test 1x No. 16 core OM4 fibre optic cable from Northumberland Building Ground Floor Comms Room to the main Machine Room. Approximate length 50 metres.

Supply, install, terminate and test 2 No. 16 core OM4 fibre optic patch panels.

Fusion splice each core with OM4 pigtails and present onto the patch panel with LC type connectors.

Each supplier is required to submit 2 pricing proposals:

1.All work to be undertaken during business hours

2.All work that can be disruptive to teaching and learning (for example taking out existing cables, running big bundles of copper or fibre, drilling or taking down roof tiles etc,) to be done outside of business hours and the remainder of the work during business hours.
