description

Mobile Track Geometry Measurement Tool Prior Information Notice

The purpose of this Prior Information Notice (PIN) is to engage with the supply market to assess the level of interest and considerations in the design, manufacture, commissioning and acceptance/certification of a manually operated, Mobile Track Geometry Measurement Tool.

This document outlines the requirements for the supply of a small mobile manually operated tool to be used to measure track geometry. This equipment will be used and kept locally as required. This tool needs to be appropriate to be placed easily and relatively quickly on and off the track with easy to follow/use software (if used). Its primary use is to identify cyclic top sites initially identified by the IMT's. The tool will be required to find the cyclic dips, then calculate the lifts required (non-dynamically) for each dip.

In the forthcoming procurement exercise, Network Rail will be looking for proven or innovative design solutions to meet its requirements. In brief, the Mobile Track Geometry Measurement Tool should take account of the following operational parameters:

Capable of measuring/detecting as a minimum the following:

-Super Elevation (Cant)
-Twist
-Gauge
-Cyclic Top over the following cycles:
-4.5 metres on one and/or both rails
-6 metres on one and/or both rails
-9 metres on one and/or both rails
-13 metres on one and/or both rails
-18 metres on one and/or both rails

Interested parties should contact Lynn Robertson (lynn.robertson2@networkrail.co.uk) to request a Soft Market Questionnaire.

This is not an invitation to tender, it is solely a market engagement exercise and no direct business will be awarded as a result of participating in this exercise. Further responding to this PIN will not in any way advantage or disadvantage any supplier in a future procurement exercise.

Following the market engagement exercise, Network Rail will not be bound to conduct a procurement exercise or to award any contract, and where it commences a tender exercise reserves the right to cancel the tendering process at any time.
