description
Ophthalmology has been identified by City and Hackney and Islington Clinical Commissioning Group as an area that would benefit from service redesign to provide a more efficient use of resources, providing more services in a community setting and reducing pressure on urgent care and acute eye services.
Therefore, the CCGs are commissioning a Community Minor Eye Conditions Service and are looking for interested providers of this service. The service will provide assessment and treatment in the community of a number of minor eye conditions, and includes glaucoma repeat measurement and referral refinement for patients with cataracts or suspected glaucoma. The CCGs would anticipate the service to be delivered by optometrists with clinical oversight from a consultant ophthalmologist.
The expected activity levels for the service are 3,300 (Islington and City and Hackney figures) with an approximate annual contract value of £165,000.
Commissioners are holding a market event on Thursday 28th July from 13.15-15.00 in the Hoxton Room, St Leonard’s Hospital, Nuttall Street, N1 5LZ where there will be a short presentation about the process and the service model followed by a chance to ask questions.
Current and interested providers of eye care in Islington and City & Hackney boroughs are invited to join the event to find out more and provide any comments on how the service can link with current hospital services.
Action: please register for the market day by confirming your attendance to clinical.procurement@nelcsu.nhs.uk.

Action: all providers who interested in providing the service to fill out prior to the market event (deadline 5pm 26th July). Please send completed questionaires to clinical.procurement@nelcsu.nhs.uk
