description
This contract is to undertake works at Sutton Scarsdale Hall which is an unroofed three storey building with a grade 1 listing and Scheduled Monument status. This is the first stage of tender process and will be used to compile a tender list that will consist of between 4 – 6 contractors.
The works to the site are to take place over 2 phases. The first phase is to include for the consolidation of high level masonry to the roof level of the building and to areas of masonry where required and as specified in the following locations; the servants hall, the smoking room and two adjourning room.
As well as the conservation of the only remaining original plaster on the site, this will need a specialist contractor to complete the works in line with a report and recommendations produced by Skillington workshop Ltd. Plaster works include for the consolidation of; decorative plaster in the new hall/billiard room, roman cement across the courtyard and plain plaster to the servants hall, the smoking room and two adjourning room.
The second phase is likely to include similar masonry and plain plaster consolidation in the remaining rooms, this may be a negotiated as part of this tender using the standard schedule of rates or sent out as a new competitive tender.
This project will be an Exemplar project which will help to set the standards for future conservation works and will be reviewed by Historic England inspectors.
