Sinclair and Sinclair Annex Refurbishment

As part of Oxford Brookes University’s (OBU) £130m Estates Improvement Plan and its ongoing commitment to invest in and adapt its property portfolio to enhance the student experience, OBU is seeking to undertake a phased refurbishment of the Sinclair Annex followed by the refurbishment of the First and Second Floors of the Sinclair Building. In addition to this, the Sinclair Annex will be re-clad as well as all floors of the main Sinclair building (Ground, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th). This will be a phased refurbishment with the Sinclair Annex being refurbished first. Following on from this the occupants of the Sinclair 2nd Floor will move in to the Annex. This will then enable the Sinclair 2nd floor refurbishment to commence. Once complete the occupants of the 1st floor will move in to the refurbished 2nd floor, at which point the 1st floor refurbishment can commence. The decant periods between the refurbishments are expected to take 2 weeks for each move. The recladding of the Sinclair Annex will be undertaken during the refurbishment, but the re-cladding of Sinclair cannot commence until May 2016, after University examinations are finished.

There is also a requirement to demolish the existing chimney adjacent to the Sinclair building, remove the asbestos contained within, and build a replacement in its position to act as a service riser. It is anticipated that this work will commence and run concurrently to the Annex refurbishment.
