Interim Senior Director of Corporate Communications

Job purpose

1. To support the Senior Director in delivering strategic leadership and development of all aspects of Ofwat’s corporate affairs and communications activities, in support of the organisation’s corporate strategy.

2. To deputise for the Senior Director of Communications and form an integral part of the department’s leadership.

Key responsibilities

• To support the development and continuously refresh the communication and stakeholder management strategy required by Ofwat to successfully deliver its corporate strategy.

• Support the Senior Director for Communication in providing the professional leadership of Ofwat’s communications and engagement activities with a wide range of senior stakeholders, to ensure that Ofwat’s strategy is understood and that there is a high level of ‘buy in’ to key areas and initiatives. Our audiences include Ministers, MPs, Senior Whitehall Officials and departments, Welsh Government, NGOs, Consumer Council for Water, Media, and other regulators.

• To authoritatively represent Ofwat in a wide range of public forums, with a particular responsibility to ensure that policies which are regularly complex/technical are understood by non-specialist audiences.

• To support the Senior Director of Communications with the development and delivery of a comprehensive and insightful stakeholder management plan, which ensures Ofwat’s relationship with its key stakeholders is proactive, well-co-ordinated and insightful.

• Working closely with the Senior Director of Communications and Chief Executive to develop and implement regular and broadly based stakeholder engagement events in support of Ofwat’s strategy.

• To lead, develop motivate Ofwat’s corporate communications resource pool to ensure they are able to deliver our communications objectives effectively.

• To support the Senior Director of Communication in leading the development of the wider organisation’s communications ‘literacy’ in all its core activities.

• To support the Senior Director of Communication in lead and innovate in relation to the efficient and effective use of all financial and non-financial resources.

• To deputise where required to contribute and add substantial value to the development of Ofwat’s policies and priorities across all aspects of the strategy.
