description

The Royal Baths are a Grade II listed building located to the corner of Parliament Street and Crescent Road. The area lies within Character Area A (Town Centre, Low Harrogate & the Victoria Park Estate) of the Harrogate conservation area.

The Turkish Baths wish to replace the existing entrance canopy and undertake some internal alterations. The new entrance canopy will increase the awareness of the entrance to the street whilst providing greater shelter from the stepped and ramped approaches. Internally, the Turkish Baths would like to strip back 'lightweight' elements of the 1990's conversion to expose the existing historic fabric of the building. Where possible this will include increasing the width and height of the entrance corridor to create a greater sense of arrival into the facility. A new modest floor structure is also proposed within an existing double height space (which is currently obscured with a suspended ceiling), this will provide additional treatment space for the facilities.
