In 2019, Durham County Council (DCC) consulted the local community in Horden on a range of options (developed by BSBA Architects) to tackle the housing issues in the numbered streets in Horden. The preferences included for DCC to remodel, purchase and/or demolish the existing properties with the outcome of the provision of a range of new homes.
Following the consultation, DCC cabinet has committed significant financial resource from its Towns and Villages programme towards the masterplan. A multi-disciplinary team were appointed to work in partnership with DCC to develop a masterplan and a delivery strategy for the numbered streets in Horden.
Durham County Council intends to approach the market to establish a Joint venture or equivalent to deliver this project.
Tender documentation will be released via NEPO system in October 2024. All interested parties must register and express their interest via the portal only.

This opportunity will be exploring the potential of remodelling of existing properties as well as full demolition and rebuild.
The aim of the project is to regenerate the Horden area and address some of the deep rooted deprivation issues.
