description

In line with the relevant Government Digital Service (GDS) service design principles, DWP's own strategic principles, and the use of Public Cloud hosting as the first choice, all non-strategic transitional hosting workloads continue to migrate from DWP's On-Premise environments to its strategic Hyperscale Cloud.

Cloud consumption is forecast to increase as a result of all of this migration.

In August 2019, DWP created a strategic, 2-year GDP G-Cloud10 Hyperscale contract with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to future-proof hosting delivery and take advantage of new preferential commercial terms to improve value for money.

The contract is currently not delivering best value for money and DWP looked to find a replacement with improved discounts, which has been developed through Cabinet Office's One Government Value Agreement (OGVA) to which DWP signed up as an Anchor Customer.
