Architectural Design Service
This is a MARKET ENGAGEMENT EXERCISE and not a call for competition.
Sunderland City Council (SCC) is seeking suppliers to provide a full Architectural Design Service to enable the redevelopment of the Grade II listed Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens.. The redevelopment project is a unique opportunity to reimagine the building, winter gardens, collections, displays and exhibition spaces to maintain current audiences, attract new visitors and for the museum in the longer term to be commercially independent.
The successful bidder will provide the Council with specialist architectural services to assist the Council in progressing the project plans for Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens as part of a wider National Heritage Lottery Fund (NLHF) delivery phase application. The Council will require the successful bidders to review and further develop the current RIBA Stage 2 Concept Design and subsequently (subject to securing delivery phase funding) prepare all the tender information, assist in the contractor selection and oversee the delivery of the built environment.
Following an earlier Expression of Interest exercise, the Council is now intending to commission the architectural design service. It is also intended that the commission will be in two phases, corresponding with the National Lottery Heritage Fund development and delivery programmes and will be consistent with the tasks listed under RIBA Stages 3 - 7 as detailed in the RIBA Plan of Work 2020. The second phase of the commission will only be instructed subject to satisfactory performance in the first phase and all funding and internal approvals being in place.
The Market Engagement Exercise is an opportunity for potential bidders to understand the structure of the intended procurement package and provide feedback on the intended process. The Tender Brief will be informed by this exercise. Please note that details on the content of the Brief will not be discussed.
