Advisory Services and Technical Support for the Clean Air Act

The Authority is looking for a supplier to provide technical support and advice to Defra and the Devolved Administrations on smoke control, in particular sections 20 and 21 of the Clean Air Act 1993 (https://www.gov.uk/smoke-control-area-rules) and other associated sections.

The contractor will provide impartial assessment of applications from manufacturers for authorisation or exemption of fuels or appliances. Details of the current application procedures can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/smoke-control-area-rules. The Contractor will provide guidance to appliance/fuel manufacturers prior to application on the process of applying for an exemption or authorisation and related matters, such as how a manufacturer can have their product tested.

The Contractor will also provide technical advice to Defra and the Devolved Administrations on air quality issues which relate to the Clean Air Act 1993 and associated regulations.
