Product and portfolio management

The GMC delivers on a number of requests including projects and BAU initiatives. The management of these requests takes place within each Directorate, in line with an Operational Plan and monthly progress updates are communicated to Business Planning. This is underpinned by a business planning process which supports the planning, prioritisation and monitoring of key initiatives. This process includes the consolidation of project data for reporting, the transition of projects across Directorates as well as resource and financial management.

Currently there is no formal system to support this other than standard MS Office applications. It is a relatively manual process which has a lack of sophistication in enabling tools, provides limited understanding of variations in the work programme and is unable to identify how delays in one component immediately impacts other dependent pieces of work.

As a result the need for an end-to-end Project and Portfolio Management solution has been identified, to consolidate and better support the Project Management and Business Planning functions.
