description
This Primary Care Agreement (PCA) aims:
- To increase detection rates for STI, in particular Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea (CnG)
- To increase the uptake of the C-card condom distribution scheme amongst young people under 25 and increase condom use.
- To improve access to Emergency Hormonal Contraception (EHC), contraception and sexual health advice.
- To increase access to treatment of Chlamydia.
The objectives of this the level 2 sexual health pharmacy service are:
- To increase access to EHC to all female Newham residents of aged between 13 and 24 year old.
- To increase the use of condoms, by providing 3 condoms with each supply of EHC
- To increase Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea (CnG), by testing alongside each supply of EHC
- To recommend females accessing EHC to their GP, CaSH or GUM services for contraception
- To sign post the availability of other services thereby increasing numbers of women accessing regular sexual health and family planning services.
- To increase the awareness of the connection between unprotected sex and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and to decrease the incidence of STIs. Data to be recorded and presented to LBN/Public Health on request. This may be requested up to twice a year.
- To increase screening rates for STIs, in particular Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea in sexually active young people aged 13-25 years of age (the eligibility criteria may evolve over the life of the contract).
- To increase access to treatment for an uncomplicated chlamydia infection
- To increase the uptake of the C-Card condom distribution scheme among young people between 13- 24 years of age and increase condom use.
- To increase partnership working and improve communication between pharmacists and other professionals working with young people.
- Increase the number of patients receiving a range of sexual health services.
- Enhance the care provided to patients in primary care and to allow for a faster response to client needs, without the need to wait to see a doctor.
- Improve the skill and expertise of primary care staff in delivering sexual health interventions including recognising when a young person may need support or protection.
- Improve liaison between primary and secondary care.
- To provide services that meets the Department of Health You're Welcome criteria for young people friendly services.
- To identify vulnerable young people and refer them for support (e.g. for support in school, to universal services, Children's Triage).
- To identify high risk alcohol consumption and potentially harmful drinking.
