Luxulyan Valley Project (Treffrey Viaduct)

The Council wishes to appoint a Contractor to carry out the engineering, heritage and conservation works required to the Treffry Viaduct/Aqueduct.

The anticipated scope of works will include:

• Repointing sections of the viaduct.
• Installation of a Stainless Steel launder to enable water to flow across.
• Isolated stone repairs.

The Council owns most of the Valley which is one of its most popular countryside sites and the Treffry Viaduct, a Scheduled Monument and iconic structure, is owned by Cornwall Heritage Trust. The Treffry Viaduct is a key element of the international importance of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site.

It is proposed that the project will be funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Cornwall Heritage Trust, and Cornwall Council prudential borrowing. The estimated cost of the works in this scheme is £2,500,000.

The other works in the scheme include the repairs to the leats either side of the Treffry Aqueduct and the installation of Hyrdroelectric system. The leat repairs will be tendered concurrently with the viaduct repairs; Contractors may tender for both if desired.

An Open Day will be held on 18 September 2017 in Luxulyan which will incorporate an opportunity for an open dialogue about the project and an opportunity for Contractors to register their interest.

The session will include:

• Introductory presentation.
• Site tour.
• General bidder Q&A.
