Newham Community Prescription Service

The aim of the Newham Community Prescription is to increase physical activity/healthy behaviours across the borough of Newham through delivering an evidence based service for Newham residents, over 18 years of age who meet the eligible criteria: at risk of Diabetes and/or at risk of Cardiovascular Disease, with a BMI >=30).

The ‘gateway’ provider will act as the prime provider organisation, with the expectation that at least 50% of the activity interventions being offered will be delivered by local community 3rd sector organisations , excluding the gateway provider.

The service will comprise of two components:

• a)Activity based interventions, covering up to 24 weeks, comprising, 1 hour per week of moderate intensity physical activity. Throughout the intervention programme, service users should be supported to achieve the recommended 150 minutes per week of moderate intensity activities.
• b)An outcomes based incentive will be awarded after 24 weeks, based on a service user achieving the physical fitness KPI at week 24.

Additional information: NHS Newham, working in partnership with the London Borough of Newham is keen to test the potential provider market for Newham Community Prescription Service.

The Contract will be let on a 2+1 year basis initially subject to funding with the option for further extension. The contract value as stated is an estimated per annum value.

Potential providers with relevant technical capability and experience to deliver this service are required to express an interest if they are interested in bidding for this service should the CCG decide to carry out a competitive tender exercise and publishes a Contract Notice for this requirement.

Please note that this is a market testing exercise to inform the CCGs’ decision making process. This does not commit the CCG to a carry out a procurement process.

Bidders who have expressed an interest in this market testing exercise will have to submit a separate response to the Contract Notice should the CCG decide to procure this service and publish a Contract Notice (advert) for this requirement.
