Analysis and Publication of UK Library Services and Performance

DCMS are supporting CIPFA's analysis of the services and performance of 124 out of the 150 library authorities in England, and the publication and distribution of this analysis to each of the responding library authorities.

The Comparative Profiles are compiled using data from CIPFA's Annual Public Libraries Statistics (published in December each year) - the only comprehensive available analysis of data relating to library services in England. The profiles enhance the evidence database for the public library service in England and allow local authorities to compare and contrast against other similar authorities learning from their practice and enabling them to meet the challenge of providing a comprehensive and efficient service - in accordance with their statutory duty.

CIPFA will provide each of the 124 library authorities, that contributed their library data for the production of CIPFA's Annual Public Library Statistics 2018/19, to receive individual and a unique set of reports that provides them with their library data / performance and compares it with:

• all other English local authorities
• all other local authorities in the same geographical region; and
• to its CIPFA "nearest neighbour" grouping
