description

The overall project is to extend the existing Centurion Way recreational pedestrian and cycle route, which currently ends at West Dean at the entrance to the former West Dean railway tunnel. The new Centurion Way Phase 2 route will run north from West Dean along the former Chichester to Midhurst railway line, to connect with the South Downs Way, a distance of approximately 5 kilometres.

The project is an extension of the existing Centurion Way path in the South Downs National Park, which currently ends at West Dean railway tunnel.

The design of the pathway in some areas is quite complex due to the topographic conditions and/or the project requirements, for these areas it is necessary to carry out a topographic survey in 4 locations across the route.

The contract for planning and detailed design of the route has been awarded to Schofield Lothian Ltd, who have drafted the following specification. The successful bidder will require to liaise with Schofield Lothian's representatives on site.

Please note: The route of the scheme is across private land and SDNPA are arranging permissions with the necessary land owners on 11 May. Hayley Stevenson will be in touch to make detailed arrangements for the site visit.
