description
Under the UK's £500 million Blue Planet Fund, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has launched the new Climate and Ocean Adaptation and Sustainable Transition (COAST) programme.
COAST has a total budget of up to £154 million funded from UK Official Development Assistance only to be delivered between 2023 until March 2030. COAST's aim is to improve the adaptive capacities, climate resilience and prosperity of vulnerable coastal communities, and drive a more sustainable and inclusive management of their marine environment and coastal resources. COAST will be delivered through four components. To achieve this aim, COAST will focus on three outcome themes: (i) protecting, restoring and sustainably managing coastal habitats and nature based solutions (e.g. mangroves, seagrass, corals); (ii) improving small scale fisheries' sustainability, productivity and resilience, and; (iii) unlocking more sustainable, less intensive aquaculture.
COAST's Component A - Integrated delivery across COAST's themes in up to six priority countries plus a demand led fund for UK Embassies and High Commissions in ODA eligible host countries to utilise to deliver responsive, strategic projects - will be the key Component under COAST.
