Installation of an agricultural water supply at Langley Wood National Nature Reserve (NNR)

Background to this contract

Langley Wood National Nature Reserve is one 224 NNRs in England. As well as being important wildlife sites NNRs also play an important role in providing access to nature.

Description

The aim of this work is to install agricultural water supply in Langley Wood NNR by directional (horizontal) drilling.

• 800m in length
• To include the supply and connection of 2 steel troughs, one from a T junction the other at the end of the pipe.
• 50mm diameter water pipe
• To be connected to the existing 5000 litre water tank
• Preferred installation method is directional (horizontal) drilling to avoid damaging tree roots
• See attached map for approximate location of supply. Exact location must be agreed on site to avoid large trees, therefore requiring frequent changes in direction
• Pipe must be laid at a minimum depth of 800mm to ensure no frost damage and minimise damage to roots
• Work to be completed in periods of dry weather between 3rd July & 31st August 2017.
