description
The contract was awarded on a three quote price only evaluation.
Wildfire and fires in the open are a prevalent risk within RBFRS. The primary risk is during the late spring, summer and early autumn. These incidents tend to occur away from roads and are difficult for standard appliances to access. The service has had an offroad capability based around a lightweight vehicle with a small pump and water tank. This has proved extremely useful and effective at wildfire / fires in the open and the ability to deploy more of these style vehicles at incidents has been identified through operational feedback as a way to increase operational effectiveness.
The service has blue light fitted Ford Rangers that are capable to carry light weight pumps and tanks and have the capability to respond offroad. The vehicles are strategically located across the service and one is currently being used to carry a pump demonstrating the capability and feasibility of the system.
