description

The Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site (DVMWHS) Partnership seeks to appoint a consultant to investigate, evaluate and report on options for a DVMWHS Visitor Centre as part of the North and East Mills site in Belper. The DVMWHS Visitor Centre needs to be focussed on the heritage, stories and offer of the DVMWHS's 'Central Hub' as well as communicating and engaging people with the overall Outstanding Universal Value of the world heritage site. The Options Appraisal for a Visitor Centre is an opportunity to inform efforts to secure the heritage for the future, increase the range of cultural opportunities and contribute to sustainable tourism within the DVMWHS.

Once an option, with variations, has been established its feasibility needs to be fully assessed. The assessment needs to cover capital and revenue costs as well as organisational requirements and skills to ensure its successful establishment and sustainable running.

The DVMWHS Great Place Scheme is a £1.4m jointly funded National Lottery Heritage Fund and Arts Council England programme which aspires to engage and enable people to have a sense of pride in, and belonging to, the DVMWHS.

Old Spaces, Creative Futures is an activity that forms part of the Great Place Scheme. The objective of this programme is to able creative reuse of the Belper Mills Complex to ensure they are a vital and vibrant part of the centre of the DVMWHS
