Brief description:
Sandwell Council is looking to appoint Democratic Services Officers to join our Democratic Services Unit at an exciting time. We're looking for candidates with a minimum of 3 years' experience to support local democracy and make Sandwell's Vision 2030 a reality through the implementation of the Council's Corporate Plan and the delivery of its Improvement Plan. Working at the centre of the organisation, you will contribute to the delivery and continuous improvement of the Council's governance arrangements, working with politicians and senior officers across all departments. We're looking for someone highly motivated with a working knowledge of local authority decision making structures and processes, and an appetite to contribute to our change programme. You will be expected to provide advice on the interpretation and operation of the legislative framework around local authority decision making and the Council's Constitution. You will have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, MS Teams and other virtual meeting platforms as well as knowledge of governance and meetings management systems. You will need to be a flexible team player with excellent organisational and communication skills, political awareness, a confident and positive disposition and the ability to work with people at all levels.
A number of our Committee meetings are held in the evening therefore you must be prepared to work outside of regular office hours. The Council is currently operating a combination of working from home with attendance at offices in line with business need.
No DBS required. This is a politically restricted post. Inside IR35.
Qualification requirements:
- oGCSE Maths and English
- oEducated to Level 3 or equivalent in a relevant subject.
- oA Diploma in Democratic Knowledge (or equivalent).
