description
Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) has undertaken a programme of enhanced fire behaviour training to all firefighters. This training includes the recognition of the effects that ventilation can have on fire development and how these effects can increase the risk to firefighters and casualties.
This training has also identified that there is a need to actively control the ventilation profile within structural building fires to reduce fire/smoke spread, risks to persons and property damage.
However, while KFRS has the capability to increase the ventilation profile via the use of its positive pressure fan capability, there is currently no equipment provision that enables the ventilation profile to be reduced.
Therefore, KFRS is now seeking to procure portable door smoke curtains that can be easily and rapidly fixed to the inside edge of the frame of external and internal doors. These door curtains will prevent air from being introduced into the building by the fire (entrainment) or through prevailing wind conditions. They will also prevent smoke from entering internal compartments not currently affected by smoke.
All items purchased shall be delivered to Kent Fire & Rescue Distribution Centre, Loose Road, Maidstone, Kent ME15 9QB unless otherwise advised by the Authority.
This document sets out the specification of a portable door smoke curtain that would meet KFRSs requirements. All evidence and documentation provided by bidders must be in English. All bidders must be received through the Kent Business Portal www.kentbusinessportal.org.uk
