Sampling of COVID-19 positive individuals
- To deliver detailed insight into virus emission from ambulatory cases of COVID-19 focusing on patterns
- To correlate FMS RNA signals with those obtained from contemporaneous conventional swab tests and with recovery of replication competent virus.
Sampling of healthy volunteers:
- To relate bacterial and particle emission profiles associated with different respiratory efforts (small airway closure manoeuvres, coughing) in linked PExA and FMS studies.
- To assess the source of these emissions with assays of upper and lower airway surface fluid biomarkers.
Optimise FMS for SARS-CoV-2 Sampling:
- To determine conditions inside masks that optimise microbial capture in the sampling matrix
